Otaru Canal

When gas lamps flicker to life along the Otaru Canal at dusk, the old port town reveals its most romantic face. Stone warehouses from the early 1900s, built during Otaru's boom as Hokkaido's commercial gateway, now house galleries and cafes that glow warmly against the canal's mirror-still water. In winter, the Snow Light Path festival transforms the waterway into a corridor of floating candles and snow lanterns.
